Stark State
College of Technology provides Email accounts for all
current students. Students can read and send Email from
any Web enabled computer. This computer can be at the
College, in your home or any other location that has
access to the Internet and a Web browser. Email messages
and attachments are hosted by Google. No special
software is needed on the computer used to access the
Email account.
Requirements
The mail program is a
version of Google mail called Gmail. It provides Email,
a Contact (Address Book) module, and other
features.
The Email
service is available from any computer meeting the
following requirements:
- The system must be
connected to the Internet. Note that the College does
not provide ISP services to students
- Fully supported
browsers:
- Microsoft
IE 5.5+

- If you
access Gmail with a different browser from those
listed above, you will automatically be directed to
the basic HTML view of Gmail

User Accounts
All active students
have several network accounts when they enroll for a
credited class at Stark State College. An active student
is a student that is registered for at least one credit
class in a term. All accounts use the same CollegeID
(user account) and a combination of specific digits of
your social security number for the account passwords.
Each student's CollegeID is unique and is permanently
assigned to that student. The following table lists your
accounts and the purpose of each:

Note: All CollegeID and
passwords should be lower case.
If more than
one student has the same name and birth date then
the birth day number will be increased by one
digit until a unique CollegeID is reached. The

Student Email
Account
Information
Students have an email
address created as one of their accounts. This account
uses the same CollegeID and default password as their
Academic Network Account (see table
above).
Your
email address is <CollegeID>@starkstate.net For
example: jdoe0514@starkstate.net
Please
Note: The domain name for student email account is
.net not .edu
Faculty and staff email accounts use the domain name
.edu.
Students who are enrolled in a
web-enabled class that uses one of the E-Learning
platforms also have an email account associated with
their WebCT or ANGEL account. Your instructor will
inform you if you are to use this
account.

Email Account
Restrictions
Students are expected to follow
the College's Student
Computer Usage Guidelines which can be found in the
Student Handbook, the College's
Responsible Use of Computing Resources policy and all
applicable state and federal laws. Specific email
account restrictions include:
- Gmail limits the amount of
storage space allocated to each student's Gmail
account mailbox to 2 Gigabytes
- Gmail limits the size of the
email message & attachments to 10 Megabytes
total
- The College may filter
incoming Email messages and some messages may not be
delivered
- Certain types of attachments
are blocked and will not be delivered
- The College is not
responsible for messages that you send or that are
sent to you that do not reach their
destination.

Changing Your
Password
Students are encouraged to
periodically change their passwords in their different
accounts. You may change your Gmail password at any
time. You must be on campus to change your Academic
Network Account password. Please note:
If you change your Gmail password it will be different
from your other account passwords.
